Music Promo Preview

We made a preview for the band to post on their facebook so that we could find out what people think of the production and if they people are looking forward to the production being made and coming out. It shows the variety in different shots and the mood of our production that we will be making for the band.

OK GO sequence

As a group we watched the OK GO video End Love to get dance moves to help inspire our routine for DanceGrenade to do.
At first we thought the OK GO video was done in stop motion which is why in this test the first 2 moves were done in stop motion but then on the third move we realised that it was actually done so that the footage was sped up. So the third move we did in this style.
We then went out into a woody area so that we could do the routine in that sort of environment.
We then shot DanceGrenade on the day doing the routine which shows how we progressed the idea beyond what we had planned before the actual day of filming.

Digipak and Magazine Adverts Planning

Due to our group containing all art students we wanted to do something creative with our Digipak covers. We looked at famous bands and artists album art work that are already out there for inspiration but also something that links to the song title, Korma Chameleon Because a chameleon changes colour and can be bright colours or dull colours we all decided we wanted to do something using paint.

Due to the band wanting an OKGO style music video we had all watched different OKGO music videos and This Time Shall Pass contains shots of them in white suits but with paint splattered on their fronts and at the end they get shot with paint blasters. What with us all being girls we have all watched Princess Diaries and liked the idea of having a board with Balloons filled with paint and then popping them and using that as a back ground for the covers.
Due to us liking this idea we then came across The Stone Roses Album artwork which is paint splattered with writing over the top and other objects such as lemon slices which creates an arty and creative element to their covers.

We did some paint testers using vibrant colours and also Autumn colours to go with the leaves that have fallen off the tree's lately so that their would be a link between the footage and the covers. These are just a few of the testers that we have done of paint and we prefered the one where there wasnt much black space and had think marbelled paint with different colours in with some white paint.

We then got on Photoshop and edited out the black paper and took some screen shots of the band in our footage that we have taken when we were filming as at the time of planning for the digipak or magazine advert, we didnt have the photo's that were taken on the day of filming in the woods. We then put these together and then used a random font that was on Photoshop, as we hadnt planned that part yet, saying the bands name and the song title. We then experiemented with a white background behind the paint or a pitch black background.

Costume/Props

For the live performance the band had put on the invite for their gig that they would be dressed up in Halloween fancy dress costumes. When we turned up we didn't know what to expect but the band reassured us that their costumes would be similar and their faces would be uncovered. The only band member that would be in a slightly different costume was Loui.

The band couldn't meet up for the bonfire/fireworks night but we didn't really need them to be there as we were only getting footage of a bonfire and fireworks.

For the Bourne woods shot we thought that we would add a twist to the Halloween costumes that they wore and wanted to paint the bands faces like a skeleton. I was the model for this face paint tester and we filmed how we did it.
When we asked the band to wear black clothing they said that this wasnt their vision of how they wanted the music video to look and on the day of filming in the Bourne woods for the OKGO aspect of the production they turned up in normal clothes. This actually worked better as they were showing their individuality as a band and because of the autum colour within the leaves and trees they stood out more than what they would have done if they had been in black clothing and with skeleton face paint on. They stood out more due to them actually looking as though they should be their and the clothes they wore suited the weather and the genre of their music more than what our initial idea was.

We didnt use that many props to go with our production. The only props that we used were the bands instruments and a picnic bench that the band will stand on and do various things on it and with it. The props that we used in a list form is;
For the live performance -
  • Microphone in standx3
  • Guitarsx2 plus a bass guitar
  • Drum kit
  • A synth
For the bonfire/fireworks night -
  • the bonfire
  • fireworks
  • sparklers
For the OKGO element in Bourne Woods -
  • picnic bench
  • Guitarsx2 plus a bass guitar
  • 1 drum and drum sticks

Shooting Schedules

Sunday 28th October 2012 - Live performance
Start: 7:30pm
DanceGrenade will come on after the first 3 bands
My camera will be at the back of the gig in the DJ booth to get crowd shots and the whole stage.
The other two cameras will be at the front of the room in front of the stage or round by the sides.
We will film all the songs so that we can get shots of instruments and of the crowd but when Korma Chameleon comes on we will focus on Gavin Jones, the lead singer, mainly so that when we come to editing we can hopefully get the lip sync bang on.
Finish:10.:30

Monday 5th November 2012 - Bonfire/fireworks
We will shoot the footage of the bonfire and the fireworks on bonfire night as it seems the obvious time. The atmosphere is usually pretty good at the Thurlby Fireworks and hopefully we will get some people involved by asking them to dance around the bonfire hoping to get an image similar to that of "Good Time" by Carly Rae Jepsen and Owl City.

Sunday 11th November 2012 - OKGO aspect
We have chosen this day as it is forecasted to be a sunny day.
Unfortunately, to film this part it needs to be in day light and due to work commitments I will not be able to help out on that day when filming.
The rest of the group will go to Bourne woods and meet the members of dance grenade there.
Film on camera's with HD video to get better footage
Leave woods when all the footage is taken and maybe more than planned.

Actors

As we are filming the band at the live performance we decided to use the band throughout the whole production. As the band live near by it makes it more convenient to make plans as to when we need them for the other aspects of the plans for the production. The band have personally been wanting to make a music video but they had difficulty creating a music video around their school and meeting up. What with us working with the band, it can be used as an advantage for us to be able to use their equipment and going to the gig but working with the band can be hard work due to us having to work with them and taking on board their ideas to go towards the music video that they want to represent them as the band. When we were planning to meet for filming in the October half term it proved difficulty due to the band members going to different schools and plans that they had already going on. So most of our filming was done when we could in the October half term and at weekends when everybody was free.

The band has an odd sense of humour which shows in these images that they have taken personally and one of our images that we took whilst filming.
